Albany infant death under investigation

ALBANY — The death of a one-month old is under investigation, Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said Monday.

Edwards, whose office houses the District Attorney Child Death Team, said the case involves Niya Richardson, who was born on Aug. 30. Edwards said the death was reported early Saturday morning. An autopsy has been performed, Edwards said.

Additional test results were still due to come in as of Monday afternoon, but Edwards said it was likely criminal charges would be pursued in connection to the child’s death.

Edwards added that the autopsy revealed no obvious injuries to the infant, which means whatever charges are to be filed will likely stem from additional circumstances surrounding the case.
