ALBANY — An early-morning victim of an armed robbery on Thursday injured his hand while escaping his attacker, police officials say.

Cordarrius Clay told officers of the Albany Police Department he was walking from a friend’s house on the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue around 1 a.m. when a man with a handgun appeared and demanded money. According to Clay, the gunman’s face was covered.

After the bandit robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash, Clay told police he fled on foot and injured his hand while jumping over “several” fences. According to police reports, Clay said the gunman fired multiple shots as he made his escape.

Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said that when officers later interviewed nearby residents, no one reported hearing gunshots in the area.
