ALBANY — A fugitive suspect in a shooting death at America’s Best Value Inn last week was apprehended in New York Wednesday and likely will soon be returned to Albany, according to officials with the Albany Police Department.
According to Albany police, around 8:15 p.m on April 16, officers responded to the hotel at 2586 N. Slappey Blvd. and found Kendrick Miller, 38, lying unresponsive in front of the office doors with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was given CPR, officials say, but later died at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
On Friday the Albany Police Department issued a lookout for Marquel Rashad Culpepper, who officials say was acquainted with the victim prior to the shooting.
Jail officials say warrants against Culpepper include felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
A spokeswoman for the APD said on Wednesday that Culpepper was captured in New York state and awaiting extradition to Albany. Exact circumstances of the capture were unavailable, the spokeswoman said.
