Albany murder suspect released from state prison

ALBANY — An Albany man suspected in a 2017 execution-style slaying is on the loose following his release from a state prison facility in June.
The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office learned that Dadreon Klavell Dave, 20, was no longer in prison Tuesday when he failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance, Capt. Craig Dodd said.
Dave’s attorney told officials he was released from a state prison, where he had been incarcerated since April 16 on an unrelated case.
“Dadreon Klavell Dave was released from Autry State Prison while under a detainer from the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office,” Dodd told reporters during a news conference Wednesday morning. “We were not notified.
“He is alleged to have shot someone in the back of the head in an execution-style murder.”
The sheriff’s office wants Dave back in custody and has notified law enforcement agencies across Georgia to be on the lookout for him.
Dodd said the sheriff’s office contacted prison officials Tuesday evening but as of 11 a.m. had not received any response to calls asking why Dave was not returned to Dougherty County to face the murder charge.
“He is considered armed and dangerous, and we’d like to get him off the street as soon as possible,” Dodd said.
Police also are seeking 22-year-old Teeyonna Shanique Thompson, who they think may either be with Dave or know where he is. Thompson also has an active arrest warrant on a probation violation charge.
“(Dave) has been seen in Albany recently,” Dodd said. “We would like to talk to (Thompson) about his whereabouts.”
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information that could lead to finding Dave or Thompson to call (229) 431-3259 or, after business hours, (229) 430-6502.
The Georgia Department of Corrections said it will review the circumstances that led to Dave’s release.
“At this time, our top priority is assisting local law enforcement in placing Dadreon Dave back into custody and our Fugitive Unit agents are doing so as we speak,” the agency said in an email response to The Herald. “We will be reviewing the steps/processes that occurred prior to his parole release, but our focus today is placing him in custody.”
