Albany Police Department respond to two fatal shootings on Saturday

ALBANY — Albany Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings which occurred over the weekend — bringing this years murder count up to 10 according to APC reports.

The first shooting was at 2135 W. Gordon Ave., Apt. 21, at 2:22 a.m. Saturday. Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman from the APD, said the victim’s name is LaShon Johnson, 24. The circumstances which led to the shooting death of Johnson came under investigation, and APD detectives conducted interviews with witnesses to assist with developing suspects, Banks said.

The suspect is identified as Kuyaunnis James, 25, who was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and solicitation of prostitution. Banks said that James was transported to the Dougherty County Jail, and that the case remains a “very active” investigation.

The second shooting was reported at 5:11 p.m. Saturday at 1202 S. Harding St., Apt. A. The victim is reported to be a 30-year-old Kentrell Knighton.

Officers responded to a call regarding a shooting and officers found that Knighton had been shot multiple times. EMS arrived and transported the him to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. There are no known suspects at this time. The case is under investigation.
