Albany police investigate robberies

ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany Police Department is investigating two business robberies from early Monday and another from late Saturday, according to reports.

Among the robberies was a break-in at EZ Corner Grocery, located at 521 S. Slappey Blvd., at around 3 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered that the window above the front door had been broken, which an initial investigation into the incident found to be the point of entry and exit the suspect had used.

The owner was notified and upon his arrival, he stated that cash and an unopened box of lottery tickets were missing. It was unknown Monday afternoon who the suspect is, police said.

This case, labeled a burglary in the second degree, remains active.

Another break-in took place at 1001 Pine Ave., the site of Hot Dog King, at around 2 a.m. Monday, according to reports.

Officers responded to the Hot Dog King in reference to an alarm. Upon their arrival, the officers found that some unknown person(s) had broken out the front glass window to gain entry. The owner responded to the scene and advised that his cash registers were empty but were damaged during the incident.

Police believe the suspect exited through the back door. Nothing appeared to be missing from the establishment, according to reports.

That case was also labeled as a burglary in the second degree.

Meanwhile, police have been searching for the person who is thought to have robbed the Homerun Foods at 3315 Gillionville Road on Saturday evening.

At about 10:20 p.m., a black male approximately 5-feet, 5-inches tall and wearing a hunter green jacket with something white over his face walked into the business. He jumped over the counter and snatched money from the register before fleeing on foot toward Beattie Road, police said.
