Albany police investigate Saturday shooting death

ALBANY — A shooting death is under investigation in Albany, police officials say.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said officers responded to 1526 Malone Drive around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in regard to a shooting. Initial reports did not provide many details of the circumstances of the shooting, but Banks confirmed that Quentin Cheatham, 32, died after being transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for injuries from the shooting.

Banks added that a person of interest was interviewed, but that no charges were immediately filed. Police were not referring to it as a homicide investigation, she said.
