ALBANY — Two people were hospitalized after early Sunday morning incidents in which one person was shot and another was run over by a vehicle, officials from the Albany Police Department said.

Reports show the shooting took place at 1019 W. Broad Ave., the site of Club XcLusive, at 2:58 a.m. The victim, identified as Marquic Brown, 17, and a witness, both said they were at the club when a fight took place inside. They ran outside to get in their vehicles and an unknown male reportedly began shooting.

Brown was struck in the lower stomach by one of the bullets, police said. He then got in the vehicle with a friend and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD.

A spokeswoman at Phoebe said Brown was listed in good condition Monday afternoon.

Police later responded to Brooks Plaza, 1100 W. Broad Ave., at 5:37 a.m. Sunday in reference to someone being run over by a vehicle, reports show.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Gary Hawkins, ended up at Phoebe after he had reportedly been run over by a vehicle. Banks said officers responded and made contact with him and the witnesses, and they advised that the suspect and victim got into an argument at the Sandtrap, 911 E. Oglethorpe Blvd. The victim left and the suspect followed him, he told police. When they got to Brooks Plaza, they stopped and everyone got out of the vehicles.

Police said an argument and fight took place. The suspect is alleged to have gotten in his vehicle and intentionally run over Hawkins, police said. Hawkins received several broken bones in his right leg as a result of the incident, Banks said.

Hawkins was listed in fair condition on Monday afternoon, a spokeswoman at Phoebe said.

There was nothing further available on the aggravated assault cases at press time on Monday.
