Albany police investigating early Monday armed robbery report on South McKinley

ALBANY — Officials with the Albany Police Department say they are investigating an armed robbery from early this morning.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said officers responded just after 2 a.m. to 714 W. Lincoln Ave. regarding an armed robbery on the 500 block of South McKinley Street.

Banks said officers established contact with a man who said he was walking on South McKinley when another man pointed a pistol at him and told him to give up his Nike Jordan shoes and cell phone.

The man said he did not want to write a statement, and that he did not recognize the gunman , who reportedly fled on foot heading east.

The man described the gunman as a black male between 5 feet 5 and 5 feet 9 in height who weighed 150-180 pounds. He had a bandana over his face and was wearing a purple jacket, black pants and white tennis shoes, Banks said.

The case is under investigation, Banks said.
