Albany police make four arrests in connection with July 5 mass shooting outside nightclub

ALBANY – The Albany Police Department has made four arrests in connection with a fight and exchange of gunfire between multiple shooters that left one man dead outside an east Albany nightclub. Police are anticipating more arrests.

Gunfire broke out in the early morning of July 5 outside Reflextions Lounge, located at 312 Thornton Drive. Police were called at about 2 a.m. to the location, where Daveyon Tyron Wakefield, 21, was pronounced dead and three other victims were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

A fight inside the establishment escalated into the exchange of gunfire between rival gang members outside the nightclub, police said.

Police announced that Donnell Germain Thomas, 19, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting.

Cosha Zyemma Brown, 19, and Lakeisha Wingfield, 21, both were charged with affray, police said, and Jayquan Levante Miller, 26, has been charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The three victims taken to the hospital were in stable condition on Monday, according to police.

Reflextions Lounge closed on July 5 due to the mass shooting and re-opened the following day, according to its online Facebook page.

“We took a day off, cleared our heads, planned out improved ways for safety outside of the building and it will be just that,” the establishment posted on its Facebook page. “We have new rules that will be strictly enforced. If you cannot follow them, don’t come. We are here to have a good time (and) go home to our families.”
