ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is asking for help in identifying someone believed to be connected to a financial card theft from earlier this month.

The initial report from the incident shows that officers responded to 2013 N. Davis St. at around 10 p.m. on May 5. There, a man said he was in the Big Lots store at 2310 N. Slappey Blvd. with his wife and small grandchild at around 8:30 p.m. The grandchild sat the grandfather’s wallet in his lap while sitting on some furniture. The grandfather said he was unaware the wallet was there and left the store.

The wallet was not known to be missing until after he was notified at around 9 p.m. that a charge of $683.56 to his Chase Visa card at a Walmart store had been denied. Thirty minutes later, he got an email from his corporate account from American Express saying there had been a charge of the same amount completed at Walmart. Two additional charges, one for $1,069.97 and another for $748.98, from the American Express card were denied at the Target on Dawson Road, the report said.

The victim told police there was one other credit card, as well as his identification, in the wallet. All the credit cards in the wallet were immediately canceled.

Officials with the APD released footage portraying the potential suspect, and are requesting help in finding him.
