BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Due to the reported inclement weather in the Birmingham metropolitan area Thursday afternoon, the SIAC postponed three quarterfinal games.

The games — No. 2 East seed Albany State vs. No. 3 West Stillman from the women’s bracket, with the No. 2 West seeded Lane vs. No. 3 West seeded Claflin and the No. 2 East seed Morehouse vs. No. 3 West seed Tuskegee contests from the men’s bracket.

The three games have been rescheduled for today starting at 2 p.m. Albany State will play in the second game of the day at 4:15 p.m.

In their previous matchup, Stillman came out on top 66-65. Wednesday, Albany State women’s head coach Robert Skinner said that both teams have grown and improved since their first meeting, so two different teams will be stepping onto the court today.

The Lady Rams played their last game against Tuskegee on Feb. 26. Skinner said his team hasn’t had that much time in between games since the Christmas holidays and it did more harm than good. Still, he’s confident his team is in a good place and will come out ready to play. One of their main areas of emphasis is eliminating turnovers.

“The first thing we gotta do is we’ve gotta protect the basketball … That’s very important,” he said. “We need to make sure we make key plays when we have the opportunity to make them and we take every possession and we value it, value every possession. I think if we can do that and continue to play defense like we’ve been playing, then we’ll be alright.”

As a result of the delay, the semifinal round is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with the championship games set for early Sunday morning.
