ALBANY — At least two armed robberies took place in Albany Monday, police officials say.
Around 9:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Subway sandwich shop at 1801 N. Slappey Blvd., where witnesses told police the business had been robbed by three unknown males, including one suspect who had a gun. According to police spokeswoman Phyllis Banks, the bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No customers were in the restaurant at the time of the robbery, Banks said, and no injuries were reported.
In a separate incident, victim Wilbur Burns told Albany police he’d been walking in an alley near the 900 block of Moultrie Road around 5:30 p.m. when two black males came from the back yard at 1315 Mobile Ave. and robbed him at gunpoint.
According to Burns, items taken by the bandits included beer, his cellphone and wallet.
The gunman is described as black and wearing tight pants with a white shirt wrapped around his head, while the second suspect is said to be a black male wearing khaki pants and a red shirt. Burns told police that both the robbers appeared around 18 years of age.
Banks said there are no witnesses or suspects in the case, which was forwarded to the investigations unit of the Albany Police Department.
