Albany Tech kicks off National Engineering Week celebration

ALBANY – Albany Technical College and its ATC Engineering Preparatory Academy will celebrate Engineering Week this week by holding a number of events on campus for local high schools, middle schools and the community at large.

The weeklong celebration kicked off Monday with an opening community event in the college’s Logistics Education Center, where a panel of engineers presented an “Industry Hour of Power.”

A Community Partner Day is scheduled today starting at 9:15 a.m. for Dougherty, Monroe, and Westover high school and Turner Job Corps students.

Midweek activities include “High School Day” on Wednesday, beginning at 9:15 a.m., with students visiting the campus from high schools in Baker, Calhoun, Lee, Randolph and Terrell counties.

Thursday is “Middle School Day” with visits from students at Albany Middle, Merry Acres Middle, Radium Springs Middle and Robert A. Cross middle schools.

The week will conclude on Friday at 10 a.m. with a wrap-up Q&A session by the Albany Tech Engineering Preparatory Academy staff.

During Thursday’s session, a live robotics demonstration by the Merry Acres eighth-grade ATC Engineering Preparatory Academy students is scheduled. Visitors will be able to hear about students’ experience as ATCEPA participants.

ATC programs participating in the week’s events include Civil Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology and Electronics Technology.
