ALBANY — The Dougherty County School Board faced a light agenda at its mid-monthly meeting Wednesday at Albany Technical College, giving ATC President Anthony Parker an opportunity to talk about a few of his favorite topics — especially the Performance Learning Center (PLC).

“I think the PLC will be a great service for this community,” Parker said. “I ask you to urge your students to participate in joint and dual enrollment opportunities with us. The successes of the Dougherty County School System are greater than its challenges. We need to change the perception of our public school system.”

The PLC is a collaboration between Albany Tech and the DCSS that aims to accelerate the completion of high school credits needed for graduation while allowing students who meet criteria to enroll, concurrently, at ATC to earn college credit and prepare for a career.

In other business, the board will conduct a called meeting at 8:30 a.m. April 7 in the DCSS Administration Building board room, where the board is expected name a permanent superintendent. The board members will make its selection between Interim Superintendent Butch Mosely and Colquitt County School System Superintendent Samuel DePaul.

In action items, the board approved policy changes in regard to homeless students and created a new policy in regard to entitled gifted cluster schools. The body tabled a recommendation of a resolution appointing outside tribunals to conduct disciplinary and non-renewal hearings.

The board also approved purchase orders for a literary design collaborative, an I.T. infrastructure project and neighborhood wi-fi.

The next regular School Board meeting is April 14.
