ALBANY — Albany Technical college officials said Wednesday a 26-year-old student intern at the college’s Child Development Center has been arrested on a charge of child molestation which allegedly occurred at the facility.
Albany Tech spokesperson Wendy Howell confirmed 26-year-old Algenard Cutts was arrested and charged on Oct. 2 after the parent of a two-year-old girl accused Cutts of improperly touching the child. An investigation was launched after the child reported the incident to her parent.
“All students and educators at the Childcare Center undergo background checks. The safety of the children at the Center is our primary goal,” Howell said. “When Albany Tech learned of this incident, it was turned over to the Albany Police Department and we are cooperating fully with the investigation.”
Albany Tech President Anthony Parker said he wanted to assure parents that the welfare of their children at the facility is of the utmost importance.
“This is a very unfortunate and unusual incident,” Parker said. “This is the first time I can recollect something like this happening in my 20 years at the college,” Parker said. “We want to continue to be open with parents who can discuss any concerns they may have with us at any time. I want them to know we have the well being of their children in mind at all times.”
Cutts was released from the Doughterty County Jail Wednesday morning on a $10,000 bond.
