ALBANY — A young Albany woman and her mother were stabbed at the woman’s home on University Drive on Thursday, police officials say.

Dorothy Jones, 27, told officers of the Albany Police Department she was in her bedroom on the 1000 block of University Drive Thursday evening when a man she described as her boyfriend jumped out of her closet and attacked her.

Jones stated that she and the attacker fought through the hallway of the house and into the kitchen, where he grabbed a knife and stabbed her once in her stomach. The man then stabbed Jones’ mother, Felicia Davis, Jones said, before fleeing. Both Davis and Jones were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment, officials say.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said the unidentified man will be charged with aggravated assault.
