Albany’s city manager mulling Virginia job offer

ALBANY – Albany City Manager Steven Carter could be on his way to Virginia after receiving a job offer for the same position in Portsmouth.

“It’s a possibility,” he said when interviewed at the conclusion of the Tuesday Albany City Commission meeting.

Carter, who was named Albany’s city manager three years ago, said that he has not yet accepted the position.

“I haven’t signed a contract,” he said “They’ve made an offer. That’s it.”

A native of Waycross, Carter has worked in a number of roles with the city. He was employed by the city in 2016 as chief information officer; his duties included cyber security, network and operations, telecommunications and fiber infrastructure, and internet service delivery.
