ALBANY – One year ago, Albany made history with the first Girl Scout DreamLab space to open inside a Walmart Shopping Center.

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia are now inviting the community to celebrate the first anniversary with a special STEM Day, Saturday, from 9 a.m. until noon. The DreamLab is located at 2825 Ledo Road in Lee County.

DreamLabs are spaces that have evolved to meet potential interests of girls today. The Albany space provides an audio sound booth space, STEM activity lab and areas for girls to collaborate or hang out. Albany’s DreamLab is the seventh such venue to open in the U.S.. The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia chose a Walmart for a space to try to increase the DreamLab’s visibility and foot traffic.

The facility first opened its doors on Oct. 3, 2024, and has since provided girls and families with hands-on opportunities to explore STEM, entrepreneurship, life skills and the outdoors.

In partnership with Georgia Power, the anniversary celebration will feature a variety of hands-on STEM activities, including experimenting with homemade light bulbs, exploring wind energy and using a solar oven. Families also will have access to resources and tips to help save on utility costs, making the event both fun and practical.
