Albany’s Hasan Temple unveils new Shriners monument

“A Shriner never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a crippled child.” This motto of the Shriners Hospitals for Children organization aptly depicts the image portrayed at a new monument outside Albany’s Hasan Temple, dedicated Wednesday. Created from a 1970 photograph, the image of the “Silent Messenger” has long been a symbol used in association with Shriners hospitals. Donated by the Skalla family in Albany, Lan and Virginia Skalla were in attendance at the special ceremony recognizing the philanthropic work that Shriners in Albany and across the nation continually do in support of children in need.
