MACON — Albany native and Olympic champion Alice Coachman is one of four honorees who will be inducted into the Georgia Women of Achievement Hall of Fame at Wesleyan College here on March 8.

Coachman was the first African American woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal and has been honored as one of the 100 Greatest Olympians of All Time.

A video is being created for the ceremony at Wesleyan in Macon. Afterward, the video will be made available for school and organization use. Atlanta Olympic Games organizer Billy Payne is among those being interviewed for the project.

GWA is a nonprofit organization and is looking for sponsors to help cover the cost of the project. All donations are tax deductible. With more than 100 honorees in the Georgia Women of Achievement Hall of Fame, Coachman will be the first in the athletics/sports arena.
