‘American Idol’ finalists show nation’s diversity

I am truly disappointed in the article that was on the front page of The Herald “Phillip Fits Winners’ Mold” in Wednesday’s paper. It shows a complete lack of hometown support; that seems to be a habit of The Herald. The Herald supported Phillip while he was home, and now they are printing an article by the AP that says Phillip will win because he is a “Caucasian heart throb.”
This article should have never been printed in a local newspaper. Phillip grew up here, has family here, they own a local business, and pay taxes here. If he cannot count on hometown support, then who can he count on?
To bring up race shows a lack of insight on Derrik Langs’ and The Herald’s part. In the year 2012 for someone to say that America, as a whole, would only vote for a “Caucasian heart throb” is very narrow-minded. Phillip is where he is because he is talented; this is the same for Jessica and Joshua. No one gets to the top three without being talented, and to bring up race is childish. Grow up and join the 21st century. This is the most diverse top three in Idol history — white male, Hispanic/Filipino female and an African American male.
