AMERICUS — A suspect connected to three homicides in Americus who shot himself as he was being captured last week died Friday afternoon, officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Danny Jackson, special agent in charge for the GBI office in Americus, said that Darrin Ross, 45, died late Friday afternoon at Macon Medical Center, where he was transported Tuesday after shooting himself while sitting in a 1997 Buick LaSabre following a police chase.

Jackson said Monday there is still evidence to be processed to “tie loose ends” in the two homicide investigations involving three deaths that were linked to Ross. There are no other suspects known, so nothing further is expected on the prosecution end, Jackson said.

The GBI in Americus said that around 9:15 a.m. on April 21, Crisp County deputies spotted a LaSabre being driven by Ross and signaled him to stop. Ross continued driving, and deputies gave chase into a field at the end of Third Street in Americus where the suspect shot himself while still in the vehicle. He was then taken to Macon Medical Center.

At about 9 a.m. on April 20, the Americus Police Department received a call that two people were deceased inside a residence at 1130 N. Jackson St. The bodies were discovered by a relative of one of the victims when an employer contacted the relative after the victim failed to show up for work, the GBI said.

When Americus police arrived at the North Jackson Street scene, they found the bodies of Corey Willis, 36, and Quanesha Lashon Brown, 24, GBI officials said. Later in the morning at about 10:50 a.m., Americus police were called to 214-B E. Lester St. where the body of Tonya Annette Ross, 44, was discovered, the GBI said.

Tonya Ross was the wife of the suspect, Jackson said. Officials said warrants had been issued against Darrin Ross on April 20 in connection to his wife’s murder, as well as for the theft of her vehicle from the Lester Street residence.
