AMERICUS — An Americus man was arrested late Saturday in connection to stabbing of a man less than half his age that ultimately resulted in the death of the younger individual, Americus police officials said.

Maj. Herman Lamar with the Americus Police Department said that Joe L. Jones, 50, was arrested at the scene of a stabbing in which Jones allegedly attacked Dontrell M. White, 23, at 41-C Reddick Drive at around 11:30 p.m., cutting him on the neck.

“It was a private birthday party, a private gathering and Jones showed up unwelcome,” Lamar said. “Words were exchanged between (Jones and White), and (Jones) cut the victim once on the neck.”

White died later at a nearby hospital, and Jones faces a felony murder charge in connection to his death, Lamar said.

The case remains under investigation, Lamar said.
