ALBANY — It’s a once-a-year event parents and their youngsters look forward to with Christmas-like anticipation. And why wouldn’t they? Where else can a kid go to get a new bike … with no catch? And at no cost? Just show up and get a brand-new two-wheeler.

That was what had excitement in the air Saturday at Tift Park as the Another Level Motorcycle Club held its annual bike giveaway. The 26 club members, businesses and individuals, and other sponsors helped purchase dozens of bikes that were there for the taking Saturday during an event that featured fun and games for the kids, refreshments and, of course, the thrill of receiving a new bike.

“This is the 16th year that we’ve done this,” Another Level spokesman Tyrone Robertson said. “The community has gotten involved every year, buying bikes or donating money, to give these kids the thrill of getting a brand new bike.”

Latadra Parker, one of the Another Level riders and public relations representative for the club, said the club holds the event as a way to give back to the community.

“It’s a great feeling watching these kids when they get the bikes,” she said. “It’s quite an undertaking for our club; we’ve been working on this extensively for the past two months. We give the bikes to everyone 14 and under. It’s something we’re proud to bring to the community.”
