APD officers respond to assaults

ALBANY — Among the incidents the Albany Police Department responded to on Sunday were three assaults, one involving a knife and two involving a firearm, according to reports.

Officers responded to the 100 block of North Front Street, the site of Turtle Park, in response to an aggravated assault at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, reports show.

In that case, Quatavius White, 17, was apprehended following reports that he had physically assaulted a group of people with a handgun while they were sitting in the park. Following a brief foot chase between one of the victims, Demetries Lett, 28, and White, the suspect was detained and held by Lett until police arrived, APD officials say.

The other victims were identified by police as Saundria Solomon, 24, Amanda Daniels, 22, and Tereza Lord, 20. There were no life-threatening injuries sustained during the course of the incident, and the suspect was subsequently charged in connection to the assault, officials say.

Another assault was reported at 1129 Benjamin Ave., Apt. 1, at 7 a.m. on Sunday, reports show.

In that case, the victim, identified as Quentavious Wright, stated that he was stabbed with a knife by the suspect, Janelle Hines, following an argument, police officials said.

The suspect was apprehended and charged, and the victim was treated and later released from an Albany hospital, APD officials say.

Meanwhile, there was an aggravated assault reported at 5 Patricia Drive around 9 a.m. on Sunday, reports indicate.

Officers responded to the location following a report of an aggravated assault. The victim, Oscar Cato, told police that he was threatened with a gun by the suspect, identified by authorities as “Saul,” following an argument.

The gunman fled the scene and the case as been transferred to investigations. It remained an open case Monday afternoon, police officials say.
