ALBANY, Ga. — The Fourth of July got off to a bad start for one Albany man who police reports show was a victim of an early morning armed robbery.

Officers responded to 400 W. Tift Ave. at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday in reference to an armed robbery. Contact was made with the victim, identified as Michael Richardson, 49, who stated that three unknown black males dressed in black hoods — one armed with a handgun — demanded money from him.

Richardson stated to police that the suspect carrying the gun hit him in the face with it. The suspects took his wallet, which contained cash, police officials said.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene to treat and transport the victim to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for a laceration to the left cheek, officials said Wednesday.
