ARLINGTON — A Rexall drug store at 84 Maxwell St. in Arlington was robbed at gunpoint Thursday, police officials say. Law enforcement agencies in two counties are searching for the bandit.

Arlington Police Chief Casey Taylor said a lone gunman came into the store around 8:20 a.m. and escaped on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

“All we know right now is that the robber was dressed all in black and wore a mask,” Taylor said. “The sheriff’s offices in Calhoun and Early counties are assisting in the investigation.”

Arlington is split between Calhoun and Early County. The drug store that was robbed is located in the Early County portion of the town. Maxwell Street is the county line.

While no one was injured in the robbery, Calhoun County Elementary School and Head Start were placed on precautionary lock down, Taylor said.
