ALBANY — An arrest has been made in connection to a theft at the home of Albany City Attorney Nathan Davis, officials from the Albany Police Department said.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said Dewayne Goodman, 26, was spotted by uniformed officers on the 300 block of Whippoorwill Road on Tuesday. When officers made contact with him, he had two handguns in his possession but told police he did not know who owned the firearms, Banks said.
Uniformed officers conducted a check on the two handguns and they both had been reported stolen, Banks said.
The check also revealed that the two handguns belonged to Davis, whose home Flamingo Lane home was reported have been broken into between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. Reports said someone had stolen about 30 guns, some custom knives, a flat screen television and silver kitchen items from the residence. A neighbor reported noticing the home’s rear door was open and notified police.
Banks said a search warrant was executed at 424 S. Audubon Drive, where several other items related to the case were recovered, as were items connected to least two other burglary cases.
Goodman was transported to the APD Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed and charged before being transported to the Dougherty County Jail. Banks said Goodman has been charged with burglary in the first degree, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
