ALBANY — Two separate incidents on East Broad Avenue on Thursday and Friday involved both gunfire and stab wounds, police reports show.
An aggravated assault was reported from 1303 E. Broad Ave., the site of Applejax Sports Bar and Lounge, at around 12:45 a.m. on Friday, officials from the Albany Police Department said.
Officers responded to the bar in reference to shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers observed shattered glass to the front side door. Witnesses stated that an unknown black male in his late 40s to early 50s was sitting at the bar harassing the bartender and was asked to leave, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD.
Once asked to leave, the man was seen entering a burgundy Nissan pickup truck and then shots were heard. No one was injured in the incident, and no suspect was immediately taken into custody, Banks said.
In another incident, a man showed up at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in the early morning hours of Thursday saying he had gotten stabbed with a box cutter.
Officers arrived at the hospital’s emergency center just before 4:30 a.m. on Thursday regarding the injured 21-year-old man, who had a laceration on his right arm that the deputy on duty described as “deep,” the report said.
The man told APD officers he was in the parking lot of Big Daddy’s Lounge and Club at 300 E. Broad Ave. with about 30-40 people around him. He stated at first that he has been attacked by an unknown person, then said the attacker was one of the girls he was talking to at the club before saying later that he was unaware of who cut him, the report said.
He came into the hospital with blood stains on his shirt and arm. The report was labeled as an injured person report.
