ASU men’s, women’s track & field teams win SIAC titles

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Albany State men’s and women’s track & field teams both won SIAC championships on Saturday with the Lady Rams holding off second-place Benedict, and the ASU men finishing ahead of Morehouse.
The ASU women finished with 229 points and in front of Benedict (205) and Stillman (86), while the Rams scored 194 points to finish ahead of Morehouse (159) and Kentucky State (116), snapping Morehouse’s streak of eight straight conference titles.
ASU’s Albert Murrey was named the Men’s Track MVP. Kenneth Taylor, Albany State’s head track and field coach, was named the Coach of the Year for the men and women.
The Rams and Lady Rams capped their team victories with first-place finishes in the 4×400-meter relays. The men’s team of Tabareyon Jones, Kyran Stewart, Sidney Buchannon and Jarrel Jackson finished in 3:13.88 ahead of Stillman and Benedict, and the women’s team of Olivia Traylor, Mykeese Edwards, Irrion Conaler and Lanequa Borders ran a 3:52.14 to beat Benedict and Stillman.
Other first-place finishes for the ASU men came from Jones (400) and Stewart (200, 100), while Lady Ram Andrea Fullmore threw the javelin 35.76 meters to capture first place.
