ASU Theatre to kick off fall play

ALBANY — Albany State University Theatre will present its fall production this week with “Crowns.”

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at the school’s ACAD Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for Albany State students, faculty and staff presenting valid identification.

Written by Regina Taylor and directed by DeRon S. Williams, “Crowns” is a musical that tells the story of a girl who losses her brother to street violence and is then sent to live with her grandmother in the South.

“She is embraced by a circle of women who, with the grace and style displayed by their ‘Crowns,’ or church hats, share powerful, life-changing stories and help her discover her identity, her place in the world and in her own culture,” states a news release.

The production will feature Albany State Director of Theatre Wendy R. Coleman as Mother Elsie Shaw.
