Be a singing STAR in Albany

ALBANY — The Albany Recreation and Parks Department, along with the Albany Downtown Manager’s Office, are are bringing Albany STAR for the second year on Saturday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at Veteran’s Park Amphitheater, 100 W. Oglethorpe Blvd.
This is a singing contest. Each contestant from age groups, 8-10 years, 11-14 years, 15-18 years, and 19 and over are welcome. Age categories are based on the contestant’s age as of Jan. 1, 2011.
Contestants can perform from a selection of songs — rock, pop, R&B and Christian — from the 1960s to present day. Instrumental backup music will be provided for each contestant. Participants can view the songs, event rules and pull down registration forms on the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AlbanySTAR.
New this year is the ability to post a 30-second video on the Facebook site.
“We are excited to be able to host this event again this year,” said Roni Ware, Recreation Aide. “STAR was designed as a platform to showcase our local talented singers in Albany-Dougherty County and surrounding counties. We know we have talent and we want to show that.”
A second contest will be held Aug. 6 from 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
Finals are tentatively scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Southwest Georgia River Jam.
