Blood drive at Phoebe set for Thursday

ALBANY — On Thursday, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, a blood drive will take place in the solarium of the campus’ cafeteria from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., officials at the hospital say.
This drive is open to the public. Dian Swafford, manager of the blood bank at Phoebe, said there is currently a shortage of Type O negative and Type B negative red cell units — but coordinators of the drive are looking for donors of all types.
A one-pint blood donation can save up to three lives. Officials with the American Red Cross say most healthy individuals who are at least 17-years-old and weigh 110 pounds are eligible to give.
Appointments can be made on www.redcrossblood.org and walk-ins will be accepted. There is also additional information available at the site regarding donor eligibility and future opportunities to donate.
