BRIEFS: ASU’s Stewart, Traylor named SIAC track athletes of the year

Albany State track & field athletes Kyran Stewart and Olivia Traylor earned the SIAC’s top individual honors on Thursday.

Stewart was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Traylor was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.

Stewart, a junior from Camilla, recorded conference-best times of 10.45 in the 100 meters and 21.06 in the 200, both of which were NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times. His time in the 100 ranks eighth nationally, while his mark in the 200 ranks 11th.

Stewart was also a member of the Rams’ 4×100 relay team, which posted an SIAC-best time of 40.60 at the Florida State University Invitational on April 11. He also was a member of the club’s 4×400 relay team, which boasted a conference-best time of 3:14.19, set during the Florida Relays on April 3. Both times in the 4×100 and 4×400 were provisionally qualified for nationals, ranking eighth and 30th in the country, respectively.

Traylor, a senior from Roberta, posted the top conference times in the 800 (2:19.15) and 1,500 (5:05.00). Traylor was also a member of the Lady Rams’ 4×400 relay team, which notched an SIAC-best time of 4:04.79 at the Florida A&M University Relays on March 1.

Other ASU track & field athletes to make the All-SIAC First Team were Tabareyon Jones (400), Albert Murray (800), Malik Broughton (high jump), Lanequa Borders (200), Brittany Dean (shot put) and CreeAnn Perkins (discus).
