CHESTER NORTON: Attack on character of Dr. Charles Gillespie unfair
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Aviation board member instrumental to airport advancements
Chester Norton
The attempted cruel assault on the character of Dr. Charles Gillispie on the front page of the Friday edition of The Albany Herald was very disgusting. If anyone receives an email that has contents they do not agree with, then it is a simple matter to block that address in order to never be bothered again. However, if you continue to let them come (and read them) it is by your own free will.
Nobody can dispute that more progress has been made at our aviation facility during the years that Dr. Gillespie has served on the Albany-Dougherty County Aviation Commission than all of the previous years of its existence.
Let us not forget that another legacy of this great Albanian is the fact that he is almost singlehandedly responsible for the changeover from the old funeral home ambulance pickup of accident and medical emergency victims to our present state-of-the-art EMS facility manned by trained professional personal. He kept crusading for it and would not take “no” for an answer until it became the reality that we all benefit from today.
It is shameful for anybody to degrade the character of a man that has devoted his entire working lifetime to rendering quality orthopedic surgery to the citizens of our community regardless of their race or financial status. Instead of the ridiculous demand that he resign from the Aviation Commission, we need to be begging him to stay on for a few more years.
