Child, 7, shoots himself in foot at Albany motel

ALBANY — Police officials say a 7-year-old child is still recovering from a gunshot wound sustained Monday at the Dollar Inn Motel on North Slappey Boulevard.

The child was treated at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, officials said. The grandmother of the child told officers of the Albany Police Department that the boy had accidentally shot himself in the foot with a handgun he found beneath some sofa cushions.

The shooting continues to be investigated by the APD, officials say.
