ALBANY – The city of Albany is dealing with the effects of a cyber attack that has affected some functions of government.

“We are having some technical issues right now,” City Manager Derrick Brown said. “Quite a few systems are involved.”

Core functions, including public safety, have not been impacted, the city said. The outages are apparently thought to be related to the CrowdStrike issue that affected computers through a Microsoft security update.

Employee payroll also has not been affected, Brown said.

“We don’t plan on having any issues with that,” he said. “Whatever we have to do to avoid that, we’re going to do that.”

In an announcement this week, the city said that the cyber security issues has affected some systems, leading to some applications being offline.
