A Dacula man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly biting a 14-year-old Braselton girl’s buttocks while she was swimming in Lake Lanier with her family.
Hall County deputies charged Jonathan William Herbert, 30, with battery, felony second-degree cruelty to a child, public drunkenness and sexual battery against a child under the age of 16 after he “swam under the water and bit the girl” while she was playing in the lake by Lanier Islands, according to Derreck Booth, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
“Herbert, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, has no known ties to the victim or her family,” Booth said. “(The incident) was reported by people who witnessed it.”
As of Thursday afternoon, Herbert remained in the Hall County Jail without bond for the cruelty to children and sexual battery charges. A total of $5,830 bond was set for the battery and public drunkenness counts.
Booth said the case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
