DAVID SHERMAN JR.: Intersection needs aesthetic improvements

I have observed several buildings that are part of the visual pollution in the city of Albany. The Family Dollar on Third Avenue and Slappey Boulevard is one such example.

An error on the part of our city leaders has made this prestigious intersection an eyesore and a laughing stock. Its design is counter intuitive to Louis Sullivan’s adage of form following function.

Several viable options come to mind, the best would be to use the Mad Hatter location as the the store location and making the current location an enlarged parking lot. Another option would be to place faux windows along the Third Avenue and Slappey sides.

I believe that using one of these solutions would greatly improve the aesthetics, since a bike lane coincides with the building in question.
