Deadline Saturday for registering at Camp Good Grief
ALBANY — Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is holding Camp Good Grief on Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Willson Hospice House for children ages 5 through 18. Camp Good Grief is a one-day camp designed to help children cope with the loss of a loved one.
Camp Good Grief offers a combination of fun camp activities, grief education and emotional support. Camp participants engage in activities and small group sessions to help them learn about and discuss grief in a safe, relaxed environment with their peers. Campers are assisted by experienced, trained counselors, who are prepared to deal with bereavement issues.
Registration is open and there is no fee for Camp Good Grief. The camp is supported by the Lopez Hospice Golf Classic and the Phoebe Foundation. Registration ends Saturday. For more information or to register, contact Jennifer Stephens, Willson Hospice House director, at (229) 312-6956.
Walk for Alzheimer’s set Saturday at Nature Trail
ALBANY — A two-mile Walk to End Alzheimer’s Albany walk will be held Saturday at the Nature Trail behind Modern Gas off U.S. Highway 82 just north of Albany.
More than 300 participants are expected for the event which will be part of a full-day of related activities between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved, from advocacy opportunities and clinical studies enrollment to support programs and services.
Walk participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the Promise Garden ceremony. Live music will be provided by Highway 55. There also will be a barbecue cook-off.
