Death of missing 12-year-old boy an apparent drowning

ALBANY – A search for a missing 12-year-old Albany boy ended tragically when officials found his body in a pond Saturday morning.

Jacayden McCray was reported missing on Friday from the 2600 block of Whispering Pines Road, according to the Albany Police Department.

Searchers found the child’s body at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, and Jacayden was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4:55 a.m., Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said. The cause of the death has initially been ruled as drowning.

The search included the local neighborhood watch group, area residents and Albany and Dougherty County police, as well as the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Albany Fire Department and the state Department of Community Supervision.

In a Wednesday incident, police arrested Dresaun White in connection with a shooting that occurred at around 10 a.m. in the 1400 block of Sixth Avenue.

Officers used a description of a car and with the assistance of camera technology located the car. At that time, White refused to stop for police and police later engaged in a car chase. A witness observed White drop a firearm.

Officers later located the car abandoned on North Madison Street and found a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Police arrested White a short distance from where the car was located and are also seeking a second suspect.

White, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and charges associated with fleeing and attempting to elude an officer.
