ALBANY — The Deerfield-Windsor Knights dominated Tiftarea from start to finish as they scored six goals in the first half en route to a 12- 0 thrashing of the Panthers Monday night at Darton State College.

Deerfield-Windsor centerback Joe Tondera scored a hat trick, while left back Carson Orlowski bagged two to pace the Knights’ attack.

“It was a good win at home and a good region win,” Tondera said. “It was a good team effort. I’m looking forward to playing them again later this week.”

The Knights dominated possession so much that Tiftarea rarely was able to move the ball across midfield. DWS coach Aly Joslin wanted his team to keep attacking and not hold back.

“It’s that time of the season where you’ve got to go for it,” Joslin said. “Usually, we’ll give everyone a chance to play and we gave everyone a chance to play tonight. The key during this time of the season is that you’ve got to go for it. You can’t hold back.”

The Knights jumped on the board early when Spencer Martin shot a ball into the box which glanced off the hand of a Tiftarea player, earning the Knights a penalty kick. Orlowski stepped up and converted the penalty.

A few minutes later, the Knights struck again when Paul Brown crossed the ball into the Tiftarea goal and Whit Turner knocked it in for the the Knights’ second goal. A few minutes later, Orlowski bagged his second goal of the match when he took a pass from Brandon Johnson and scored to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.

Tondera gave the Knights their fourth goal of the match a few minutes later. Tondera scored the second of his three goals in the first half and Martin rounded out the first half scoring as the Knights went into halftime with a 6-0 lead.

The Knights picked up where they left off in the second half as Tondera scored his third goal of the match.

Brandon Johnson also got in on the act by scoring two goals and goalkeeper Grant Wollam, who came out of the net to play in the field, scored two goals as well. The Knights also benefited from an own goal from Tiftarea.

Deerfield Windsor (7-1-1) will host GHSA opponent Fitzgerald this afternoon at Darton.

DEERFIELD-WINDSOR GIRLS 12, TIFTAREA ACADEMY 1: Parker Morgan scored four goals to lead the Lady Knights to a 12-1 thrashing of Tiftarea Academy.

Joslin saw this game as a good warm-up for Tuesday’s game with Fitzgerald.

“It’s just a good game to get back into it after the game being postponed last Friday,” he said. “We weren’t able to do much over the weekend either.”

Though he was pleased with the win, Joslin believed his team didn’t play as well as they could have at times during the match.

“I thought it was a little bit sloppy at times,” Joslin said. “I don’t think we really reached our full potential, but with games like that, it’s about getting out there and playing and putting the ball in the back of the net. We used it as a warm-up to get ready for a big game tomorrow.”

Morgan scored the first three goals of the game to give the Lady Knights an early firm grip on the match.

Rachel Sullivan scored the first of her two goals, followed by Morgan’s fourth of the match. After Cheyenne Colvin scored the sixth goal for Deerfield-Windsor, the Lady Knights continued their first half onslaught as Haley Kincheloe bagged two more goals for the Lady Knights, followed by Sullivan’s second goal to complete the Lady Knights’ 9-0 first half drubbing.

Tiftarea’s Maci Paulk was able to score in the second half to put the Lady Panthers on the board, but the Lady Knights added three more goals, one each by Kendall Freeman and Faith Hawkins. The Knights got another goal as a Tiftarea defender accidentally knocked it into her own net.
