Discount tickets on sale for largest Briar Patch Festival

DAMASCUS — Briar Patch Festival regulars and other music fans who might be curious but haven’t yet experienced the annual gathering have an opportunity to catch three days worth of the best local and regional music in and around Southwest Georgia for $30 if they hurry.

Organizers of the annual Briar Patch fest announced that discount tickets for the May 29-31 festival here will be on sale at www.briarpatchpro.com and at Harvest Moon restaurant in Albany through May 1. After that, the three-day passes will be $40.

“Year by year, little by little, we’ve grown each time we’ve had the festival,” organizer/musician Jeb Tabb said of Briar Patch. “This will be the most bands we’ve ever had, a whole lot of music for $30 or even $40. We were a little nervous about having the festival way out in Damascus at first, but we keep getting a little bigger each year.

“We’ve had international music fans — from France and from Canada — and we’re getting more and more regulars from around here who make Briar Patch part of their plans each year.”

While details for the festival are being finalized, the lineup is pretty much set, according to Tabb. Scheduled to perform May 29 are Travis Brothers, Biggest Band in the Land, Wainwright Applegate and Spong. The May 30 lineup features Funk You, Rollin’ in the Hay, Evan Barber & the Dead Gamblers, Lingo, Larry Mitchell, Pine Box Dwellers, Bret Mosley and Mathis Brothers.

The lineup for the final day of the festival includes the Bo Henry Band, Thomas Wynn & the Believers, Saint Francis, Tony Brook, Ben Sutton, Bibb City Ramblers, Bubba Hall, Evergreen Family Band, Rod Holt & the Fractured Souls and Lee Lyndsey.
