ALBANY — A dog was killed as a result of what appeared to be a gunshot wound on Saturday morning, reports from the Albany Police Department show.

Officers responded at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday to 111 Cason St. regarding an animal being shot. Upon arrival, the dog’s owner said she had heard a gunshot at around 10:30 a.m. She said she checked in on the dogs on a chain in the backyard, and they appeared to be unharmed.

She later went out to get the dogs and bring them closer to the house when she noticed her black and white Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix on the ground unresponsive. The dog, named Chance, was found with a hole in his side, the report said.

The report said officers found what seemed to be a gunshot wound on the right side of the dog’s stomach. The area was searched for a bullet casing, but nothing was found. The owner said she had not seen any suspicious people nearby, and there were no suspects immediately known.
