East Albany clothing store robbed

ALBANY — Citi Trends clothing store at Oglethorpe Plaza on West Oglethorpe Boulevard in East Albany was robbed at gunpoint early this afternoon.

Witnesses told officers of the Albany Police Department that a black male walked into the store at approximately 2 p.m. today and pointed an unknown type of handgun at a clerk. Officials say no one was injured in the incident. Police said the robber left the scene with an unknown amount of cash.

The suspect, who is believed to have initially fled the scene on foot, is described as having a dark complexion and wearing a blue jean shirt and possibly dark glasses. Following the incident, officers searched nearby wooded areas for the suspect. Police later said they have reason to believe the suspect may have left the vicinity is a small black, four-door vehicle.

The APD requested that Dougherty High School be placed on lockdown while officers searched the area. The lockdown was lifted at 2:40 p.m. today.
