ALBANY — An investigation was ongoing Monday regarding a wreck from which a 78-year-old man was found dead at the scene.

A shift report from the Dougherty County Police Department shows the agency responded to 3309 Sylvester Road at 7:25 p.m. Sunday. The report said a vehicle was headed west on Sylvester Road when it left the roadway, hit a culvert and went airborne before striking a utility pole.

“Witnesses said he was driving down the roadway fine and just went off (the roadway),” said Capt. Tom Jackson with the DCPD.

The driver, identified by Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler as Tal Crawford, was dead on arrival.

Fowler said he was still looking into what might have caused Crawford to leave the roadway, but the indication was that a medical condition might have been involved.

There was nothing further on the incident immediately available.
