Elderly woman falls prey to caregiver’s greed

ALBANY, Ga. — Calling Patricia Glenn a caregiver is way wrong. She took more than she gave, said a Dougherty County Police Department official.

“Glenn was an 86-year-old woman’s caregiver,” said police detective Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick, “and she used the victim’s ATM card to steal $7,367 from her.”

Kirkpatrick pointed to a list that showed 31 different amounts of money stolen from July to September 2012 and said, “Look at this on Aug. 6; she took four withdrawals of $200 a withdrawal.”

Viola R. Prather, who lives on the 800 block of Branch Road near her two sons, got a bank statement Oct. 1 and asked her son, Jerry Williams, to take a look at it on Oct. 9.

Williams told his mother to cancel her ATM card. He and his brother, Ernest Williams, then called police, according to the report.

According to the report narrative, the investigation went like this: Police went to Glenn’s 11 Dobbs Road trailer and questioned her. She denied taking or using Prather’s ATM card without permission. She also said she knew Prather had problems with the card.

Police collected evidence such as video surveilance tapes of Glenn, 46, making withdrawals. The investigation continued and dug deeper into the thefts, Kirkpatrick said.

In another attempt to question Glenn, police found her trailer empty and Glenn on the run. Using an online database, Kirkpatrick said that Glenn could have lived in Thomas or Grady counties before she moved to Dougherty County. Cleveland, Ohio also turned up in the online search.
