Evans pleads guilty

ATLANTA — An attorney for former University of Georgia athletic director Damon Evans said Wednesday that Evans had pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was sentenced to a year of probation, a $750 fine and community service.
The 41-year-old Evans resigned as athletic director last July, four days after he was pulled over by a Georgia state trooper in Atlanta.
Attorney Steve Weiner said Wednesday that Evans appeared in Atlanta Municipal Court on Jan. 19, pleaded guilty and was sentenced.
Weiner says Evans was ordered to undergo an alcohol and drug evaluation and participate in a panel for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization.
Evans was arrested on the night of June 30, minutes before a new contract paying him over $500,000 a year was to take effect.
