Ex-DWS star Young scores 12 points in second career start for Clemson in win vs. Terps

CLEMSON — Starting the second game of his young college career, Albany native and former Deerfield star Andre Young was the second leading scorer for the Clemson Tigers on Sunday in a 62-53 win against ACC foe Maryland. The win snapped a three-game losing streak.

Young, a sophomore, played 37 minutes — the second most of his career — and was 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Only Jerai Grant had more points than Young as Grant scored a career-high 18 to go along with 10 rebounds for the Tigers (16-6, 4-4 ACC).

Trevor Booker had 10 points — nine of which came in the final seven minutes — and 16 boards, dropping a huge 3-pointer in the closing minutes to seal the win.

“That’s when I knew we were going to win,” said Young, who was starting at the point for an injured Demontez Stitt.

Maryland committed 26 turnovers in the loss.
